Tenth Tourism Strategy Study Group: Mr. Tomoyuki Matsumoto, Manager of the Planning and Coordination Section in the Tourism Division of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs

The Tenth Tourism Strategy Study Group was held on Wednesday, February 14. As the closing session for this academic year, this session was divided into two parts. The first featured a description of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s tourism policies by Mr. Tomoyuki Matsumoto, Manager of the Planning and Coordination Section in the Tourism Division of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs. In the second part, Mr. Haruo Shimada, Chairman of Tokyo Metropolitan University discussed an overview of the 2018 program along with the participants.

During the first part, Mr. Matsumoto described the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s Tourism Policies as set forth in the just-announced PRIME Tourist Destination City Tokyo: Tokyo Tourism Strategy Action Plan: Priority Initiatives in Preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Games. This action plan presents a roadmap for future tourism promotion efforts and describes selected priority measures for fields requiring stronger promotion and fields in which new responses are needed for the final year of preparations for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. These measures are sorted into the three priority themes given below. Readers are encouraged to take a look at this plan, which is posted on the homepage of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs.

In the second part, Mr. Shimada reviewed this year’s programs while reflecting on the lectures delivered by all eight speakers invited to date to the Tourism Strategy Study Group meetings. He then wrapped up this final Tourism Strategy Study Group meeting for the year.
